Rights & Democracy is (RAD), a member-led, people's organization in Vermont and New Hampshire with the mission to shift the political landscape through electoral and community organizing to ensure that the values and needs of our communities guide the policies of our government. We are working to build a popular movement to advance human rights and dismantle economic inequality, racism, and sexism.

Rights & Democracy has been retained by Win Together Inc, a political action committee, to recruit and train a field director and field canvasser team for this election cycle.

This election cycle we are hiring a field director to build and manage a team of field canvassers to execute a door to door canvass with voters about the elections and critical issues ranging from public education, to healthcare, to family economic security. The position will be working for Win Together Inc. and canvassing in key geographies in New Hampshire.

This a full time salaried position through November 12, 2018. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

The job will consist of the following tasks and responsibilities – some done by you, some supervised by you:

Recruit, build and train a team of canvassers. Interview prospective staff and make hiring decisions. Engage in new recruitment throughout the campaign season.
Collaborate with partner organizations for volunteer canvass days.

Staff Development and Management:
Train canvassing skills. Work with your staff in individual and group settings, with a particular eye towards developing leaders. Cultivate a welcoming and motivating atmosphere.

Canvass in the field, especially early in the campaign season as you build the team & cultivate leaders, to train new and experienced staff in the field and meet personal requirements.

Hiring and managing a canvass team, in coordination with Rights & Democracy’s Organizing Director
Coordinating creation, printing and distribution of electoral literature with the America Votes table
Nightly online numerical reporting
Managing and keeping track of the budget and expenditures (with support from RAD’s Organizing Director)
Daily check-in calls with your supervisor
Approve and/or enter canvassers time cards on a daily basis
Maintain records for future organizing efforts
Setting up our office/regional offices with necessary supplies
Completing an exit memo and thorough report out.

Candidate must have strong self-direction and the ability to take initiative.
Candidate must have a knowledge of and strong commitment to progressive causes.
Candidates must have at least two cycles of field experience.
Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills, have proven leadership ability, experience meeting deadlines, and the ability to manage many tasks simultaneously.
Candidates must have strong communication skills and be able to facilitate team work across distances.
Candidate should have experience managing and holding others responsible to quantitative and qualitative goals.
Candidate should be familiar with a field budget process and be able to provide input.
Candidate should have experience with database management.
Experience in New Hampshire politics and government a plus.
Proficiency with Google Docs, and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint required.
Proficiency with VAN or VoteBuilder required.
Some travel will be required; access to a vehicle required.

Newly hired directors will work with RAD’s Organizing Director and partners at America Votes to receive any necessary training in data management and turf cutting.
Director at first will need to spend time in the field with canvassers. Campaign hours often include nights and weekends.

Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Paid sick days accrued at 2 hours for every 40 hours worked.
