Raise the Wage - Rights & Democracy NH

It's Time to Raise the Wage

SIGN OUR PETITION

No one who works full-time should live in poverty.

We the undersigned believe that New Hampshire’s minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is a poverty wage and should be gradually raised to $15 an hour by 2024.

New Hampshire is the only state in New England that has not raised the minimum wage in 10 years. We call on New Hampshire’s House of Representatives, Senate, and Governor to Raise the Wage.

If you have a story about your struggles with low wages, feel free to leave them in the comments field when you sign the petition. Or, email Kathy Staub at Rights & Democracy: kathy@radnh.org

NH has long needed to increase the minimum wage and it is an insult to the residents working here to not even have our own minimum wage and default to the federal wage of $7.25 per hour. We need a livable wage!

The current generalized business practice of not employing workers for 40 hours per week so that benefits don’t have to be paid makes it very hard for workers to have enough income to live on unless they work multiple jobs. This practice also means that workers don’t have access to healthcare or good child care. Minimum wage workers make $290/week @ $7.25/hour for 40 hours and this is before taxes. That is an annual income of $15, 080. Most apartments these days are $800/month ($9600/year). That leaves $5480 for EVERYTHING else. How is this fair when many businesses are making big profits?
