NH Organizing Director

 

Job Description: 

This is a new staff role in Rights & Democracy made possible through the NH Progress Alliance in partnership with  America Votes New Hampshire to focus on a new program: LEAD NH. The position is based in New Hampshire.

The Organizing Director will implement a comprehensive plan for LEAD NH to build capacity and engagement ladders with leaders and members of the emerging grassroots groups taking action after the 2016 Elections in response to the Trump Presidency. The Organizing Director will do this by building deep public relationships, collaborating with the America Votes New Hampshire partners to drive participation in ongoing campaigns, to host and to offer trainings on organizing skills and leadership development, and to build a database of contacts and information about grassroots groups and leaders statewide.

The Organizing Director will also work to build a strong team of community leaders who will develop and carry out one policy or legislative issue campaign at the national, state, or local level, strategize with RAD staff and leaders to influence the policy making of the state of New Hampshire, and liaise with national partners on progressive movement building.

This organizer reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the State Director of America Votes New Hampshire and the Acting Director of NH Progress Alliance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Relationship building and cultivation of grassroots activists

  • Work directly with Movement Politics Team in NH and implement candidate recruitment and development programs with RAD and with Next Wave organizations

  • Identify potential strategic partnerships and build ongoing working relationships with labor and community-based organizations and allies for movement building.  

  • Support strong membership communications to engage in issue fights, advance our mission and build a progressive base   

  • Meet daily/weekly/monthly reporting and data entry deadlines

  • Maintain strong/accurate data collection in NationBuilder and assist in member communications

  • Become a highly competent trainer on the basics of transactional and transformational organizing and leadership development

 

Experience and capacities needed:

  • Experience in building a team of volunteers to execute short term and long term plans

  • Political campaign experience in support of an issue, initiative, or candidate campaign. Independent expenditure election program experience preferred.

  • Experience using NGP VAN and NationBuilder preferred.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent personal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work well with coalitions and the staff and leadership of allied organizations.

  • Energetic outlook and commitment to the mission and grassroots approach to movement building and social change.

  • A team orientation that combines collegiality and creativity to motivate others.

  • Ability to manage two or more work plans and projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work quickly and cooperatively under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Availability to work weeknights and weekends on a regular basis.

  • Desire, capacity, and discipline to reflect regularly on actions and work in pursuit of intentional personal and professional development.

  • Goal-orientation and willingness to hold self and others accountable to common vision and values.

Candidates for this position should have five or more years of relevant professional experience.

Regular access to a car is required for this position. Mileage is reimbursed.
