Defend Public Education in New Hampshire

Stand up for New Hampshire’s public schools that are increasingly under attack!

This legislative session New Hampshire’s public schools were threatened by SB-193, which was called the most dangerous school voucher bill in the nation.  The bill would have siphoned millions of taxpayer dollars from local school districts and given to parents to pay for private and religious schools or to homeschool. A sustained, public outcry defeated this bill and protected public schools ... for now. We know the opponents of strong public schools will be back!

Volunteer with Rights & Democracy to protect and improve public education during the current midterm election season.

We—parents, taxpayers, and supporters of public education—urge state legislators and Gov. Chris Sununu to uphold these basic principles:

✓ Every child, regardless of their income level, zip code, race, or ability deserves a quality education, as a right not a privilege.

New Hampshire should invest in our public schools to build strong communities and our future leaders.

We will protect our public schools from being dismantled at the federal and state levels and work to provide all students with a quality public education.

The proposed SB193 was defeated this year but it’s likely that Gov.Sununu will re-introduce it again. The diversion of public funds to vouchers for private schools will cause the public school systems to have to cut back funding even more. Education is not just for the rich.

Denise M. Clark I’m a retired public school teacher. Public schools exist to provide education to ALL students, regardless of social status. This includes special education programs, which privatized schools are not mandated to provide. Personally, as a property tax payer, I absolutely refuse to have my tax $$$ diverted to private & home schools that are not required to provide special education, and not required to implement state testing to ensure student proficiency & progress, as do public schools.

This no more than a raid on the State Treasury by private interests. Public Education has NH very well for centuries and any problems it has are traceable to the Legislature’s constantly expanding the load on curricula.

Manchester is still a place where we believe in social mobility. If our public school system is dismantled that will be the end of that.

I was fortunate to get a great public education and go on to college well prepared for attaining a Bachelor’s degree – every kid should have that opportunity – that is what makes America great!

I budgeted money in my family budget to purchase classroom needs and supplies for my young students every year until I retired.
